Abstract

PROBLEM: the neurodevelopmental risks presented by children with prematurity OBJECTIVE: to characterize the neurodevelopment in premature newborns and its possible alterations. METHOD: descriptive cross-sectional study with an analytical approach RESULTS: according to the data obtained, it can be deduced that young first-time mothers under 18 years of age and elderly first-time mothers over 35 years of age have a high percentage of risk of preterm birth, which could affect neurodevelopmental disorders in children. It is evident that the higher the degree of prematurity, the greater the risk for the presence of neurodevelopmental disorders. There is difficulty in the acquisition of developmental milestones in premature children from 0 to 6 years old. The possible neurodevelopmental alterations with a high prevalence of a child born prematurely are at the cognitive level, as well as indicating that a child born preterm may present neurodevelopmental disorders. CONCLUSION: risk factors in prematurity and their possible alterations are characterized.
