Abstract

PROBLEM: around the world the older adult when becoming a grandparent develops an intergenerational bond in the family, according to studies favors their cognitive and social affective capacity. Therefore, it is intended to determine the forms of intergenerational relationships that potentiate neuroplasticity in the elderly.OBJECTIVE: to determine the benefits of intergenerational relationships that enhance neuroplasticity in the elderly. METHOD: a quantitative study was carried out on 81 older adults (grandfathers) in the municipality of Asunción Mita, Jutiapa. RESULTS: the most frequent age range was from 60 to 70 years old with 55.6% (N=45), finding the female gender as predominant in 69.1% (N=56), their marital status married with 53.1 % (N=43) it was established that the benefits of relationships obtained by older adults from grandchildren are frequent visits, communication and the affective relationship is positive, in terms of emotional competencies 97.5% (N=72) they fulfill their functions as grandparents CONCLUSION: in the scale of socio-emotional factors evaluated, the factor with the greatest predominance was feeling like a good grandparent with 97.5% being a protective factor.

Postgraduate in University Teaching, Rafael Landívar University, Graduate in Psychology from the University of San Carlos de Guatemala, itinerant pedagogical advisor of Special Education, with experience in the area of ​​Educational Psychology for thirteen years working in the General Directorate of Special Education of the Ministry of Education. He has national and international diplomas related to Educational Inclusion. Investigative experience as co-author of three scientific articles.
