Abstract

PROBLEM: posttraumatic Stress Disorder is debilitating, because based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and the International Code of Diseases, within the main symptoms are anxiety, insomnia and nightmares, therefore, what is the difference between dysfunctions in daily life from post-traumatic (acute) stress and post-traumatic stress disorder? OBJECTIVE: to evaluate neurocognitive dysfunctions in daily life of patients with post-traumatic stress disorder, treated at the Psychological Care Center clinic. METHOD: descriptive cross-sectional study in 80 girls, boys, adolescents and adults with post-traumatic stress disorder, selected by sampling who attend as patients. RESULTS: in the 80 patients attended, it is observed that the age range that prevails in adolescents from 13 to 18 years is 38%. It is shown that the female gender 62% is the most affected; In relation to occupation, 52% of students have identified themselves with this disorder, while 23% of the population who work have the established diagnosis. CONCLUSION: based on the analysis, the population of children, adolescents and women are the most vulnerable groups, from the diagnosis the symptoms continue to present chronically, causing neurocognitive alterations that require a neurorehabilitation process.
