Abstract

PROBLEM: cognitive flexibility difficulties manifest maladaptation, emotional problems, relationship problems, behavior, hyperactivity, among others. OBJECTIVE: to describe the changes associated with the cognitive flexibility provided by first-year medical students at the University Center of North West, in the months of July to September of the year 2022. METHOD: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out on the cognitive flexibility with 113 first-year medical students from the University Center of the North West, in Huehuetenango. RESULTS: the most frequent age range was shown to be 18 to 20 years old with 71%, the female gender was found to be predominant in 63%, the predominant religion is Catholic with 50%, it was evidenced that the problems Emotional, behavioral, hyperactivity, problems with peers and the prosocial relationship are elements that influence cognitive flexibility. CONCLUSION: the changes associated with mental flexibility and cognitive flexibility are due to difficulties with prosocial relationship problems with 59%, hyperactivity problems with 41%, emotional symptoms with 36%, difficulties with their peers with 30% and behavioral problems with 15%.

Omar Alexander z Félix López, Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala

He is a Clinical Psychologist in active practice, with psychotherapeutic care for young people and adults, he has a Master's degree in education with specialization in higher teaching; He also has a specialty in Neurosciences with an Emphasis in Neurocognition, he is an undergraduate professor in the medical career at the Nor West University Center, University of San Carlos of Guatemala, a professor in the Clinical Psychology career at the Mariano Gálvez University of Guatemala, Huehuetenango Campus.
