Abstract

PROBLEM: determination of cognitive impairment in older adults. OBJECTIVE: to determine cognitive impairment in elderly patients who consult the outpatient service of the Regional Hospital of Zacapa. METHOD: a descriptive cross-sectional study of cognitive impairment in elderly patients was performed in the outpatient clinic of the Regional Hospital of Zacapa. RESULTS: during the month of august 2022, 342 patients were consulted, of which 119 were male and 223 were female, I studied a sample of 119 patients who constitute 34.8% of the patients who attended the month of August of the outpatient visit, obtaining that they consulted 68 women and 51 men, aged 60 to 89 years. CONCLUSION: finding that of 119 patients, 10 patients with normal cognitive assessment, 5 female and 5 male patients with mild cognitive impairment are 16 (10 female/6 male) patients with moderate cognitive impairment are 34 female and 32 male and with severe cognitive impairment, 27 cases were found (19 female/18 male) which makes this study important 100% 8.4% have a normal cognitive assessment and 91.5% start with moderate to severe cognitive impairment.
