Abstract

PROBLEM: what are the factors that contribute to cognitive flexibility in preschool-age children? OBJECTIVE: to determine cognitive flexibility in children 5 to 6 years of age from the Nursery Center Attached to the Official Mixed Rural School Vista Hermosa I, Aldea Vista Hermosa, San Pedro Sacatepéquez, Guatemala. METHODOLOGY: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out, with an analytical approach, due to its depth of descriptive type, an analysis of reality is carried out through the use of the Wisconsin Test. RESULTS: it was shown that the most frequent age range was from 05 to 07 years with a universe of 100% (N=80), resulting in 47.50% obtaining correct answers and 25% obtaining conservative answers, which reflects an adequate condition of cognitive flexibility in preschool age. Another important statistical fact is 37.50% of 7-year-old children, most preschool children are already ready for the transition of stages. CONCLUSION: the level of development in children regarding their cognitive flexibility from the preschool stage is decisive for decision-making in the future of each person, from the moment this executive function is highlighted in the human being, their cognitive development will stand out, will strengthen and have a better way to face their life cycles.

She has a degree in Pedagogy and Educational Administration graduated from the Faculty of Humanities, Technician in Social Management for Early Childhood Care graduated from the School of Social Work of the University of San Carlos de Guatemala, central campus. M.A. in Educational Planning and Management, from the Faculty of Education, Galileo University, Guatemala City campus. San Pedro Sacatepéquez, Guatemala, November 2022. The author has conducted studies on breastfeeding, the influence of bilingualism, intergenerational relationships, and the relationship with neurosciences.
