Abstract

PROBLEM: to establish which are the physiotherapeutic methods aimed at neurorehabilitation in geriatric degenerative diseases. OBJECTIVE: to determine the physiotherapeutic methods of neurorehabilitation in chronic degenerative neurological diseases in the department of Izabal METHOD: descriptive cross-sectional study in older adults who were evaluated in the home outpatient brigade program in the Izabal department of the comprehensive clinic for the elderly. RESULTS: Regarding the sociodemographic characterization, the age range with the highest frequency was 60% to 70 years corresponding to 42%, the most predominant gender was male with 52% of the study population. The neurological diseases found in the study population in chronological order were cerebrovascular events, peripheral and diabetic neuropathy, unspecified dementia, syndromes associated with parkinsonism plus, Parkinson's disease, cerebellar ataxia, Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and multiple sclerosis. CONCLUSION: the methods applied in neurorehabilitation were 100% applied manual therapy, 64% executed mechanotherapy, 62% neuro-prioceptive facilitation techniques, 57% electrotherapy, 38% hydrotherapy, 37% bobath method, 36% kabat method and 16% mechanotherapy.
