Nomofobia y sus consecuencias neurocognitivas

PROBLEM: dependence on the mobile phone in the Guatemalan population can affect the cognitive, emotional or behavioral state, reflecting on dysfunction in both psychological and biological processes. OBJECTIVE: to characterize nomophobia and its neuropsychological consequences. METHOD: transversal descriptive with a sample of 500 people. RESULTS: the predominant age range was 17 to 25 years old with 70%, of which the female gender obtained 63% and 37% male, high school degree was the highest with 75%. In the mobile phone dependency test at general level, it was from medium to high 75% dependency; in relation to the dimensions: abstinence, absence of control and related problems, tolerance, and interference with other activities; in the gender there was no difference, however, in the age range of 17 to 25 years in high school degree showed the maximum value. CONCLUSION: in relation to the scale of the Mobile Dependency Test, the results at the general level the population presented a medium-high level of dependence with 75%, showing that a high percentage suffer from a feeling of anguish, anxiety, or irrational fear, that is Nomophobia by not having access to the mobile phone, coming to interfere at the neuropsychological level in executive functions, emotional regulation and people perception.
